Super and Sustainable: Austin Desk by ducduc

When I wrote about Stump by Kalon Studios, I mentioned that I had originally heard of the company when I was researching American-made, hardwood cribs. This week I am tasked with writing about another product that is produced in an environmentally friendly manner and constructed in the United States. This time, again, it is not a crib, though it is manufactured by another company that does design cribs, which is why I’m familiar with ducduc in the first place. (In case you are looking for a fabulous crib, check out ducduc’s Alex Crib, which comes with an optional “Fragile” or “This End Up” sign).

American-Made, Solid Wood Children’s Desk

Austin Desk. Manufactured by ducduc.

The American company ducduc uses only sustainably harvested hardwoods (no particle board, no MDF) and water-based, non-toxic paints. The company produces their entire line at their manufacturing facility, which is a renovated factory from the turn of the century. If you’re looking for a responsibly made children’s desk, look no further. ducduc’s Austin Desk offers something for everyone. With a wide range of color combinations, including white/orange, white/red, white/pink, white/green, and white/blue, Austin will appeal to parents and kids alike—and to parents and kids with all manner of stylistic preferences. The desk is also available in white and wood, featuring both light and dark stains, using oak or walnut.

The Austin Desk has lock mitre joints for strength and is available in two heights (23” and 30” high). With a depth of 25.5 inches and a width of 51.5 inches, this desk is large enough to take children into their college years (or beyond). You can opt to get a dry erase top, a built in Altec Lansing entertainment system with speakers and computer/MP3 player connectivity, and a CPU / storage unit. Like all ducduc pieces, the interior of the drawers are finished in signature orange. Austin features clean lines, square edges, and an open design. The square outline base on either side of the desk means you can see through the furniture, which makes it particularly suited for smaller spaces where the airiness of the Austin Desk will keep sightlines open.
