Traditional craft and high tech computer programs fuse together every now and again in the most brilliant of ways. Recently, designer Timothy Schreiber combined the opposite sides of the craftsman spectrum to form the second seat of a series that he playfully titles Plooop Chair.

Triple Plywood Loops Form Timothy Schreiber’s Modern Ploop Chair.

Making its debut at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2011, Schreiber’s Plooop Chair stood out as the side chair whose structure takes its shape with both rounded and straight pieces of plywood. Together, a unique triple plywood loop formation shines as the essence of this Plooop Chair – which comes to life using four rounded loops that find their energy alongside the straight edges that brace its back.

The designer states of the chair, “The continuous plywood rings touch and detach at key points, melding the chair’s structural elements in one fluid motion and creating an elegant and harmonious form.”

In its 800cm x 400cm x 400cm size, the high tech, CNC-cut chair succeeds the Plooop Armchair which had debuted at the 100% Design Show in London last year. By using the computer-assisted technology along with traditional wood craftsmanship, each of the chairs are anything but ordinary. In fact, their modern shapes are seamless in style and texture but interesting in that the loops and straight lines come together in an effort to form an extremely strong plywood chair that you can feel comfortable “plopping” into day after day.
