HI-MACS Eden Acrylic Solid Surface

Composite materials are a logical way to create sustainable building components. A percentage of recycled waste material is diverted from its landfill trajectory, and with the help of a binding agent or manufacturing process, a “new” material is created. We have seen various types of composite materials here on 3rings, some examples are Icestone, Paperstone, and Nylodeck. Each of these materials takes advantage of a different waste type (carpet, paper, and glass) while managing to create durable, functional products.

HI-MACS® Eden Plus surfaces fit into the most common category of composite surfaces, counter tops. Counter tops styles have fad followings that lead to home owners changing out their counter tops every decade or so. When counter tops are made from non-recycled, non-recyclable materials, the waste created by style changes is permanent. HI-MACS® Eden Plus acrylic surfaces feature up to 41% certified pre-consumer recycled material. HI-MACS® Eden surfaces are GREENGUARD Certified for indoor air quality and can receive LEED credits in sustainable design. The look is similar to Corian solid surface, and is available in nature inspired colors that the company calls “garden botanicals.” The color selection is limited at this point, but LG promises an ever-expanding collection of colors and styles. HI-MACS® Eden is non-porous, stain-resistant and anti-microbial, which is everything one would want and need from a kitchen counter top. Its Corian competitor offers only 6% - 13% pre-consumer recycled content, which may ease the choice of acrylic counter top surface for the eco-savvy home owner.
