Twinkle Twinkle: Falling Star by Tobias Grau

Falling Star by Tobias Grau turns LED technology into a playful statement. The suspension light looks like an eyeball dangling from the ceiling—it’s a benevolent version of a panopticon. Of course, it also looks like a dangling luminous ball, as its name suggests. According to Tobias Grau, Falling Star “hangs as a matter of course on a so-called bird swing and by doing so makes the latter suitable as company.” I’m assuming that by “the latter,” Grau is referring to birds, in case you should have some flying about in your flat in need of perching. If you find yourself devoid of winged companions, Falling Star will please you and your human neighbors alike—providing glowing light in a hanging ball that’s as fun as a childhood yo-yo.

The thick wire and v-shaped structure holding the ball of light make the suspension lamp a composition of lines and circles. Falling Star comes in various configurations, most with one singular dangling focus. The wires and balls of light are dark or bright, depending on the color combinations: black and chrome, white and chrome, and white and blue with chrome. Falling Star is also available in a pendant galaxy of swinging orbs and in a trio of shiny globes. No matter the combination, Falling Star by Tobias Grau will capture your attention as it captures the light. Thanks to developments in LED technology, this suspension lamp shines bright, though it is also dimmable in case the twinkling of the little star gets too intense.
