Cogito Ergo Cartesio Tub

Although I have always loved sterile, impermeable bathrooms, today I became a hypocrite. But it’s not my fault, I blame Descartes and Agape. The modern philosopher who challenged traditional thought in mathematics and natural sciences has also inspired the presence of wood in a new bathtub by Benedini Associati for Agape.

Cartesio Tub. Designed by Benedini Associati for Agape.

Available in freestanding or corner versions – with inset or recessed installation – the Cartesio bathtub in Cristalplant® comes with plenty of options to make it more attractive, especially to those previously opposed to natural materials invading their bathing haven.

Everything about the Cartesio bathtub is designed to work with your individual project. The tubs can be made with side panels, plain, or with different shelf configurations. They can also come with the taps fitted on the edge of the tub, on the floor, or on the wall. Surrounding edges of the tub are made in the width of your choice or angled to your specific desire between 5 to 27 cm. The exterior comes in light, medium, or dark oak, or in teak and the interior tub itself comes in a spacious size: 182 cm x 101 cm x 55 cm H (71 5/8″ x 39 3/4″ x 21 5/8″ H ). According to Agape, practical variations of the outer Cartesio not listed in their catalogue can also be created to accomodate the layout of your bathroom space.

According to the Agape website, the addition of a bathtub using different materials and available to suit your bathroom however you choose may not be out of the ordinary. They say that their company’s mission “is to make the bathroom a more comfortable and aesthetically stimulating space by rethinking conventional typologies.”

As our 21st century homes move further away from solid wood exteriors and floors to more sustainable options like faux wood, tile, and concrete, there is no question why the added feel of a natural material in the bathroom renews and invigorates our senses.
