Certain bi-national pairings prove rather fortuitous in the design world. For example, French artistry combined with German know how creates a well-rounded product. Such is the case with the new Axor Bouroullec Collection by brothers Ronan and Erwan for Axor. This grouping of over 85 products includes washbasins, mixers, bathtubs, and shelving. The entire line is white, clean, sleek, and simple. Perhaps most interesting is the multi-tiered washbasin unit, which includes a built-in sink that's as shallow as a plate.

Ostensibly, one might place a bar of soap on one level and some shaving accoutrements on another. This organic piece has already earned some criticism from readers who cannot imagine how one might wash one's face. But remember, this is Axor we're talking about here-and they have certainly thought about functionality.

After all, Axor is the company behind Patricia Urquiola's latest bath collection. Axor Bouroullec includes shelves for the shower that look like they're growing organically from the wall, faucets that creep like tiny tendrils, and tubs that seem to be sprouting from the floor. The collection creates a calm feeling because everything fits in its particular place. With all the bathroom essentials neatly compartmentalized, Axor Bouroullec gives one a sense of spa-like relaxation. The collection reminds me of the white Grecian city of Mykonos and the smooth expanses of the alabaster marble dome in the Taj Mahal. Of course, this time of year those places are over-run by tourists, whereas Axor Bouroullec exists for your eyes only.
