Bibliochaise from nobody&co: No Bibliophile Can Resist

As with most writers of a certain age, I am an avid reader. If I should ever put my house up for sale, I shall have to pack up box upon box of books, pack away varied bookshelves, and clear out impromptu libraries strewn about in every room. Realtors will tell you nobody likes clutter, but I believe many people (read: the ignorant and the stupid) just don’t like books. In every other way, my home is clean and neat—I must say this in my defense as well as my wife’s, who would kill me if I said otherwise. The books, however, don’t mesh with minimalism—and they don’t help potential buyers envision themselves in the space.

La Bibliochaise. Designed by nobody&co.

So yes, the books shall have to disappear, probably into my mother’s basement to live temporarily alongside her own collections of children’s picture books and antique encyclopedias that her realtor instructed her to hide. If you find yourself in a similar quandary, you might want to invest in a Bibliochaise, the reading chair and library from nobody&co. Until December 2009, La Bibliochaise had remained secreted across the Atlantic, serving only European bibliophiles. Thanks to Art Basel, the intelligent lounge chair arrived at Holly Hunt Miami. This sole chair accommodates approximately 16 feet of reading material (albeit no hefty tomes; the Janson’s art history will need to go elsewhere). La Bibliochaise comes in the original Home, as well as in Glossy and Plus versions. Home is lacquered in black or white or other colors as requested. Glossy is the shiny version, and Plus uses the distinctive wenge wood. Home includes fabric options of cotton, leather, or furry leather; Glossy in leather or furry leather; and Plus in leather. La Bibliochaise measures 40” w x 33” l x 29” h (more or less, I’m rounding off after converting from centimeters).

Who knows how many of these you’ll need. If you require slightly more room than one Bibliochaise can offer, pair it with Bibliopouf, the accompanying footstool/mini-library. Bibliopouf is the ideal place to house the books you plan to read in the immediate future—or books that pertain to one topic or one project. La Bibliochaise will work stupendously for shared spaces such as offices and schools, where each worker or student can claim a personalized space. They also work for couples with distinct reading and aesthetic tastes—that way your Gertrude Stein doesn’t need to fraternize with your wife’s Danielle Steel, or your wife’s van der Rohe doesn’t need to mix with your own Venturi.
