Luciano Santelli’s Royal Coffee Table

The ornamentation of old Baroque style combines with modern materiality in Luciano Santelli‘s Royal Coffee Table. A recent material of choice, acrylic has been used to produce everything from turntables, wall clocks, vases, and lighting to seating, side tables and large scale furniture.  The material enables the replication of traditional forms, shapes and patterns while integrating transparency and play of light; classic forms with a touch of whimsy.

Based in São Paulo, Santelli conceives products in laser-cut plexiglass, among other materials. Clocks, frames, trays and lamps are a part of the designer’s collection, whose work also includes graphic design and signage. The structure of his Royal Coffee Table consists of laser-cut, two dimensional ornamental Baroque shapes, made with laser cut 15mm acrylic. Standing on end, the pieces assemble into a clear acrylic pedestal base, which supports a high gloss detachable top, approximately 43″ diameter. Rather than incorporating other materials, Luciano Santelli’s Royal Coffee Table is pure transparent acrylic.  It brings together ornamental design with simplicity for a decidedly modern (and obviously very clean) aesthetic.
