FLOR’s Cap & Blazer: Bringing Back the 50s

A crested blazer or a rep tie; InterfaceFLOR’s Cap & Blazer draws inspiration from the camaraderie and uniformed elements of fraternities and 1950’s college attire. The new line debuted this year at NeoCon, featuring grade stripes that range from slim to wide. Available in twenty-four colors, the tiles can create a classic monochromatic or a bold multi-color aesthetic.  Combine colors and alternate directionality to create a composition that is entirely your own (see the combination of the Cap & Blazer ‘Trinity’ and ‘Canterbury’ at left).

InterfaceFLOR has come up on our radar time and time again. As the world’s largest manufacturer of modular carpet systems, they’re intent on “providing you with innovation, beauty, performance, service, value and environmentally responsible products and processes in one 21” X 21” box.” From airports to classrooms, lobbies and showrooms – InterfaceFLOR can be installed anywhere – and the aesthetic possibilities are infinite. Fortunately, their website lets you explore the collection and helps you visualize the floor tiles wherever you might consider using them. The ‘View in Room’ feature lets you place the products within a given space, in your choice of style, color and layout configuration (parquet – quarter turn, non-directional, brick). You can even upload an image of your own room to get the full effect. From a more pragmatic standpoint, product details, inventory and LEED calculations are only a click away. The options are endless with InterfaceFLOR’s Cap & Blazer Collection, from determining the directionality and layout of the tiles to combining various colors (let the website’s ‘Coordinating Colors’ tab help you).

Also check out Interface Flor’s “TacTiles” – an adhesive-free modular system.  The tiles connect to one other rather than to the floor, allowing you to create area rugs and cover floors without damaging them.
