At 100% Design London: OPINION by DaeKyung Ahn

We were so focused on IIDEX, NeoCon Canada that we regrettably missed some important events and products from September. Hopefully you were aggressive enough in your own right that you had a chance to visit or read up on on the 100% Design London event. Having Taken place at the Earls Court in London September 18 – 21, the event prides itself for being “UK’s premier contemporary interior design” show and had more than 450 exhibitors showcasing their object d’ arts!

OPINION Chair. Designed by DaeKyung Ahn.

London based industrial designer DaeKyung Ahn was one such exhibitor, having debuted her OPINION Chair at the event. Don’t be fooled by the imagery of the two distinct chairs in the above picture as they are one and the same! The removable back pole of the chair is the key component as it can be replaced in the other side on the seat and more changes come to the surface by looking at the legs from different directions.

Ahn emphasizes versatility and customization and also ensures that OPINION forges a bond with its participant. Whatever your design outlook is, the OPINION Chair seeks to fulfill it. Now since we’re all about video coverage this month (with our HD coverage of IIDEX), in lieu of photos I’d like to point you towards an awesome video I found a la YouTube showcasing Ahn at 100% Design London. At the very least, I promise you’ll love the music.

Balance, minimalism and customization seem to be fundamental elements in the OPINION Chair. Its transparent that the dominant sculptural facet of the chair is no coincidence and that the chair has been
conceptualized in absolute coherence with contemporary yet classic aesthetics.

Says the designer: “Modern to classic, contemporary to historical, minimal to elegant style. We all have individual design tastes for our environment. Some people prefer a particular style which is a simple design language or elegant style, and some others like both styles but they often change their design opinion depending on the place where, the time when, and the people whom with.”

Wikipedia defines the word opinion as “a person’s ideas and thoughts towards something which it is either impossible to verify the truth of, or the truth of which is thought unimportant to the person.” The OPINION Chair shows allegiance to this viewpoint and correlates it to the design continuum flawlessly. Teaching us to agree to disagree, the OPINION Chair is a paradigm of dynamic design ethos and a confluence of creativity and adaptability.
