Muungano bench

William Blake once said: "What is now proved was once only imagined." No I am not quoting the English poet to show off my literary skills, but to emphasize how imagination is a driving force for any creative individual. At 3rings, time and time again we focus on objects that not only evoke mental stimulation, but also extinguish long-established design conventions.

Muungano Bench. Designed by Peter Thuvander.

The Muungano Bench by Peter Thuvander highlights the designer's fortuitous imagination and displays the meshing of conceptual influences with sustainable design. It pays homage to the typography industry and also comments “on differences as a foundation for language and form." Interestingly, the laser cut bench forms the word "muungano" meaning "union" in the Queen's language. Hence, the Muungano Bench is an offshoot of pulsating ideas and animated characters that bask in the environment of a heightened ingenuity.

The Muungano Bench measures 3 meters wide and was produced for the Conceptual Design Exhibition at the National Gallery, Stockholm. It has also been showcased at Botkyrka Konsthall and Botkyrka gymnasium, and its production has been credited to Felixsson Eftr and Karlskoga Billack. Visually dramatic and reverberating with individuality, the bench fulfills its role of being a functional surface without sacrificing its sinuous lines.

Its always refreshing to come across objects that don't hold fast to the customary monotonous clich©s and demonstrate a predilection towards an urban thought process. Categorizing the bench as a sculptural merger won't be an exaggeration on my part since it can successfully make a visual statement in any self-orchestrated space.
