Flutes and Reeds: Unique Cast Concrete Tiles

GRT Architects and Kaza Design have announced a new line of cast concrete tiles: "Flutes and Reeds" takes inspiration from decorative motifs of classical Greek pillars.

Designer GRT says that "when the tiles are arranged in a well-behaved fashion they form a surface that would look familiar to the Greeks."

Yet, through a nifty trick of patterned arrangements, it's easy to achieve a more contemporary look: when the triangular tiles are rotated 120 degrees they create unique geometric interactions that evoke a varied history of architectural embellishment-"harkening back to Meso-American pattern-making and various unknowns in between."
