Chair Charlie by ecoBirdy

EcoBirdy has an innovative, educational project for turning plastic toys into 100% recycled children’s furniture. The company’s first collection, which includes Chair Charlie, was recently unveiled at Maison & Objet.

EcoBirdy starts with an informational picture book that explains how plastic toys generally end up in landfills, then gets children involved in collecting plastic toys. These get sent to the company’s headquarters in the Netherlands, where they are “examined, sorted, cleaned and grinded.” Afterwards, the collection is produced in Italy.

Made of ecothylene™, an innovative material that separates plastic by color, Chair Charlie is available in Blue, Red, Yellow, White, and Ocean. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, the cute Chair Charlie was designed by Vanessa Yuan.

It’s not easy to create furniture from 100% recycled plastic and ecoBirdy takes pride in the safety of its final products—after all, they’re intended for kids. That ecoBirdy’s mission includes getting children involved from step 1 is even better, because they take an active role in the toy story.
