Recycled Millwork Panels: Pacific Coastal Collection by Kirei

From Kirei, the California-based manufacturer of environmentally friendly building materials, comes a new line of recycled millwork panels that literally turn one person's trash into another's treasure. The Pacific Coastal Collection includes redwood and blue pine millwork panels "built using falloff from flooring or casework manufacture and waste wood from beetle-killed pine trees."

The three redwood options in the Pacific Coastal Collection are made by planing discarded redwood falloff pieces and bonding them with an age-old finger-joining technique "to create unique patterned panels with varying mixes of deep red heartwood and lighter colored sapwood." Redwood All Heart RF panels feature recycled vivid red heartwood material crisscrossed with visible finger joints "for a modern industrial look." Redwood Confetti RF also displays the finger joints, but uses a combination of red heartwood and white sapwood redwood. And Redwood Confetti Brick mixes heartwood and sapwood redwood in wider strips with flat straight joints.

For those who want a decidedly different look, the Pacific Coastal Collection's Blue Pine EG panels showcase the unique grayish-blue color associated with the destructive pine beetle. Instead of using the clear pine that remains in the standing deadwood, Kirei opts for the usually discarded bluish pine of beetle-felled trees, using random-width engineered strips "to create a modern-rustic look." The Blue Pine EG panels also display the creature's wormlike borings.

The Pacific Coastal Collection is ideal for wall paneling, casework, tables, and retail fixtures. Equally at home in residential or commercial design, the four recycled panel products use Ecobind Zero-VOC resin technology. Kirei's trash-to-treasure philosophy can also earn projects LEED points for recycled content, low-emitting material, and regional material.
