The Reclaimed Wood Hallway Console II by Mitz Takahashi

Born in Osaka, Japan – a city known for its historically commercial presence in the country – designer Mitz Takahashi now lives in Montreal, Quebec, which was the historically reverent commercial capital of Canada until Toronto pulled ahead in population and economic strength back in 1976. With a knack for being born into and living in successful cities, I’d say Takahashi’s design of the Hallway Console II follows suit.

Reclaimed Wood Creates Stripes in Furniture Through Varied Finishes

Takahashi has made his signature collection of tables, consoles, shelving systems, etc. with another knack that is all his own: recycling pieces of wood and materials to make stunning, green-friendly works of art. In his Hallway Console II, Takahashi uses reclaimed Cherry, Walnut, Birch, Mahogany, and Maple woods to construct its visual depth.

Since all of his pieces use approximately 80% recycled wood and materials and feature cuts and functional components that resemble those of mid-century modern units, he has stirred up a following. Always using the combination of woods for warmth, his pieces like the chunky 40″H x 46″W x 10″D Hallway Console II, One Nightstand and Side Table (as well as clocks and even a funky guitar amp with a retro feel) are additions to any genre of living area.
