Alain Gilles and BuzziSpace Present the BuzziHub Sound Dampening Module

We’ve seen the work of designer Alain Gilles in these pages before, namely in the architecturally interesting and exceedingly colorful Big Table. And as for manufacturer BuzziSpace, this Antwerp-based company impressed us all earlier with the felt-lined, sound-absorbent machinations of BuzziSkin 3D Tiles. Now the two have joined forces for the equally koda-chromatic and sound insulating properties of the innovative BuzziHub Workplace Modules.

BuzziHub is a Sound-Insulating Solution for Any Workspace

The BuzziHub concept is a simple one. Take the best of the office cubicle and the best of the breakout collaborative zone and combine into one convenient, collaborative, and private space. The resultant product not only has the requisite three walls of the cubicle, it has the double to triple seat space of the bench and a comfy enclosed rooftop to finish it out.

Designer Gilles characterizes BuzziHub as a simple answer to a pressing problem—how to collaborate in an open space while filtering out the surrounding hub-bub, if you’ll pardon the pun: “The collection is almost not designed but is a translation of a function. It forms a space within a space.”  Gilles’ space within a space contains the aforementioned seat (comes in one- or two-seater versions), walls and roof, in addition to a generous outfitting of the same revolutionary sound damping material found in BuzziSkin: the seat and back cushions are wrapped in the assorted lovely colors of BuzziSpace’s very own sound absorbent felt.

And as if this weren’t enough of a damper on a certain kind of pollution, BuzziSpace’s manufacturing process takes aim at another—all the felt material is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.

About the Manufacturer: BuzziSpace dates back to 2007, when the design-build firm spun off from parent company Technospace, “which had specialized in the production of elegantly designed cubical walls for offices.” Predictably, there’s an increased buzz about BuzziSpace. The A&D world has been quick to notice how this designer and manufacturer of acoustic solutions for home and office marries style and sustainability, pragmatism and panache: “The intention is to present products that may be used in diverse ways in any room and are effective acoustically and unique.” the BuzziSpace product line includes collaborative office modules, ceiling and wall tiles, and room partitions.
