The exclusive furniture collection designed by Quasar Khanh was made using aluminium cast that has been moulded in sand cast and polished by hand. Each of the products within the collection are pieces of art that fuse elegance with function. They work in residential or contract settings and are offered in a wide range of tables, chairs, benches, lamps, and barstools that allow designers to mix and match in unique combinations to customize the space at hand. Featured here, the Madrid barstool, Bilbao chairs, and Nervure table are a few examples of the cast aluminum. In the case of the Nervure table, a lacquered MDF top is used as the surface, and it comes in any pantone color of in a veneer wood.

Khanh is described as one “who gained a reputation as an unconventional engineer” by Glow Deco. He is known for “combining design with tangible functionality” and carries it through his Aluminum Cast Furniture line that “blends elegance, timelessness and comfort”. Part of his design mentality may have come from being a Vietnamese exile in France during his teenage years and 20s. While there with his mother after moving at age fifteen, Khanh changed his name to Quasar to defy what was the norm at the time, and to give him a more  modern identity. In his interview with the New York Times, he even said “I like to break down barriers,” going on to say, ” I like the pioneer spirit… I should have been American. I really admire people who dare.”

About the Designer: Born with the name Nguyen Manh Khanh in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1934, Quasar Khanh was taken to France by his mother. He was fifteen at the time. His father had been an engineer, but had died during the construction of the Haiphong port before he was born. In a way, Khanh graduated from France’s elite school for engineers to follow in his father’s footsteps. The school is known as the Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées.
