The Futura Line of Dishwashers by Miele

After educating myself a bit vis a vis Miele’s new Futura line of—yes, you guessed it—ultra-futuristic dishwashers, I’m left wondering what possible advancement could next be achieved in the art of dispensing with dinner detritus. None of which I’m aware. Unless, of course, we’d like our dishwashers to first prepare and consume the food for us, before making things tidy again.

Good thing that neither Futura, nor Miele, would seem to harbor ambitions in this regard, because I, for one, thoroughly enjoy the consumption part of the equation. After said gourmandizing, Futura happily does away with the evidence, courtesy of a bevy of new features that make dishwashing more efficacious: speedier, quieter, more energy efficient, and better looking to boot.

The savvy look of the Futura line is just the icing on the cake, however. And what a grand cake it is… Futura features a 3D cutlery tray that fits neatly above the principal racks, thus providing the exact amount of footage necessary to make short work of a butter dredged basting brush, or a whisk spattered with bits of egg.

That feature does away with the usual clumsy distribution of space, in which the merest utensil can take up the same usable square footage as an entire platter. But that’s not the only innovation to write home about. Futura’s other noteworthy contributions include an auto close function that ensures a tight seal; a delay start auto-programmable feature to wash while you’re away (or just sleeping); interior LED lighting for easy, complete loading; a “perfect glass care function” that leaves stemware shiny and spotless; and water-saving features like auto sensor (detects degree of soiling and changes output accordingly) and sensor dry (measures ambient temp. and adjusts heat as needed for precision drying results).

About the Manufacturer: You don’t have to know German to understand the Miele company philosophy of “Immer Besser.” This mantra of perpetual improvement informs everything Miele does. Whether it’s creating the world’s foremost brand of whisper-quiet dishwashers and washing machines; devising a refrigerator that’s well-nigh indistinguishable from the rest of the wall; or concocting an oven that uses residual heat for double cooking times at half the energy cost.
