Handcrafted in Brooklyn: The Catenary Dining Chair by TOKEN

Screw narrow, rigid dining chairs. We want spacious, comfortable and the option to sit cross-legged, with an ankle tucked, or even with a dog on our lap. It’s a good thing the Brooklyn-based TOKEN designers, Will Kavesh and Emrys Berkower, get that a weight shift is mandatory when a dinner party grows blasé or a heated political debate is sparked.  Thanks to the Catenary Dining Chair, these situations will diffuse into murmurs while we sit back comfortably and do what we like with its wide expanses.

A Precise Design and Expert Craftsmanship Helped to Make the Catenary Dining Chair by TOKEN using Steel, Wood, Leather, and Nylon.

Steel, wood, leather, and nylon (ballistic nylon, to be exact) make up the exceptionally-finished design of the Catenary Dining Chair. Also in a bar stool version, the three-tone design is conceived, designed, developed, and crafted right in the TOKEN studio of Brooklyn, NY.

Since I couldn’t say it better than the poetic verbiage used on the TOKEN website, they describe it as “a precise balance of rigidity and flexibility, coupled with an imaginative reverence for tradition. Never feeling strictly ornamental, the Catenary Dining Chair’s construction is detailed, graphic and visually bold. The physical and visual design elements are intentional, framing crucial structural connections, and the calculated interplay of materials highlight the marriage between the technical and aesthetic choices made.”

Sharply modern with a warm, well-designed finish to the end product, TOKEN has done well yet again. While the Catenary Dining Chair won’t perfect a dinner party gone horribly wrong, it will certainly soften the blow as a nice place to land in any position you fancy.

About the Manufacturers: TOKEN is a Brooklyn-based studio that was developed in 2009. They provide design, development and manufacturing solutions for architects, designers and “curious individuals”. Observation and a careful consideration of function, structural ingenuity, material dynamics and aesthetic coherence are all important characteristics of their practice. The result is a collection of historically reverent, handcrafted furniture and lighting products; a distilled representation of TOKEN which aims to provide elements for purposeful, considered living.
