At ICFF: Floor 95 Hallway Furniture by Mark Braun

A quick breeze through the show last week proved papaya-colored fruitful when I stopped for a glance at Mark Braun‘s design of Hallway Furniture exhibited in the center of the showroom floor. It wasn’t until doing my research on the brand new product later on that I realized its versatile depth.

Sit, Hang, or Set: The Multi-Purpose Floor 95 Hallway Furniture by Mark Braun Capitalizes on Spatial Efficiency

Described accurately on Braun’s design website as “easy and clever”, the Floor 95 combines bench, wardrobe/hanging system, and shelf. The way it runs along the side of a wall like a creek in a forest – winding back and forth to create beauty in the organic form of what looks to be haphazard, the Floor 95 uses different heights and systems to capitalize on function.

Using bent steel tubes that can be assembled and disassembled in many different ways, and in any length you desire, the Floor 95 is ultimately the most modern cross-referencing of function and form I’ve seen this year alone. And the best part: it’s not complicated.

“The concept for Floor 95 came up by watching the old Windows screen saver with an endless bended tube,” Braun enthuses about the design of this piece.  “I really liked the idea to bring this kind of sculpture into a functional furniture context.”

The Berlin-based industrial designer, Mark Braun, got his start as an apprentice in carpentry back in 1997. Since then, he has gone into the study of applied sciences, completed numerous internships and teaching assistant positions, and is now working alongside companies like Authentics, Lobmeyr, Philip DePury, Raumgestalt, and Wallpaper.
