3form 100% Loving on Planet Earth

100% is a pretty strong statement. What in modern life is 100% of anything? The popcorn I ate for dinner was 50% kettle corn and 50% movie style. My sweatshirt is 63% cotton, 33% polyester and 4% spandex. I doubt even the tap water in my apartment is 100% H20. 100% is reserved for naturally occurring elements, examples from the design world being wood, marble, and some other types of natural stone. The vast majority of what we are surrounded by is a conglomeration of elements from across the globe.

100 Percent. Designed by 3form.

3form

is the manufacturer of translucent resin materials that are featured in countless contemporary designs (Wholefoods immediately comes to mind). The company was founded in 1991 with the goal to create a design driven material that would have minimal environmental impact. 3form allows designers to create their own palette, or draw from the existing collection which is colorful, elegant, wistful and anything else you could dream up. Their Ecoresin line traps any material imaginable (depth is the only limitation) between 2 or more layers of 40% recycled resin to create a graphic, interactive material that can be used as a wall, ceiling or solely decorative element to name a few applications.

Talley Goodson, the CEO of 3form, challenged his team to take Ecoresin a step further. The result is 100 Percent, an architectural resin panels made from 100% post-consumer recycled high density polyethylene. “With over 1000 milk bottles going into each panel, it can help projects earn up to 2 LEED credits for recycled content (4.1 & 4.2)” Inspired by colorful detergent bottles, which are made from high density polyethylene, 100 Percent uses a rapidly renewable resource (plastic waste) to create an upcycled solid surface material that is truly sustainable. The color possibilities for 100 Percent are more limited than the other series, but the effort is impressive and I’m sure to see the possibilities expand as we throw more and more away for 3form to use as inspiration.
